Selection of possible laboratory tests

Analysis of sex hormone values
which play a role in problems associated, for example, with menopause, such as osteoporosis. Causes for childlessness or for erection problems can also be ascertained. A most common problem in women is excess body hair (male-pattern hair growth) or hirsutism.

Analysis of other hormonal values
e.g. hypophyseal hormone (relevant, for example, in dwarfism); thyroid and parathyroid hormones; adrenal hormones.

Analysis of an under- or oversupply of vitamins
A common phenomenon during menopause.

Technical examinations

Bone density measurement (osteodensitometry)
This is indicated in case of frequent fractures, e.g. due to osteoporosis. The bone density measurement can be performed in our surgery by means an enhanced form of x-ray technology called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA).

Ultrasound scan (sonography)
of the various glands, e.g. the thyroid gland.

Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA)
i.e. thyroid puncture to determine whether a thyroid lump or nodule is benign or malignant.

Body fat measurement
in overweight patients.

ECG examination
Resting ECG

Nuclear medicine

Scintigraphy
Thyroid or parathyroid scintigraphy provides a visual display of functional thyroid tissue and detects enlarged and/or hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue. Renal scintigraphy is a valuable tool in the evaluation of kidney or adrenal gland function. Bone and bone marrow scintigraphy is a sensitive and efficient method of measuring the metabolic activity of the entire skeleton.

Emission Computer Tomography (ECT)
is an imaging method to examine the myocardial muscle under rest and, if required, under stress conditions (stress test).
